In a story about the upcoming action-comedy Free Guy (starring Ryan Reynolds), The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Shawn Levy will no longer be directing the upcoming Uncharted movie for Sony, which is set to star Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake. Levy will now direct Free Guy instead, making him the latest director to depart the video game adaptation. Mark Boal, David O. Russell, Dean Donnelly & Joshua Oppenheimer, David Guggenheim and Joe Carnahan have all attempted to adapt the property in the past before stepping away.

It’s believed the film will be a prequel to the video games and will be based on the time of Drake’s life depicted in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, in which he meets his partner Victor Sullivan for the first time. A new writer will be hired to work on the script. The film will be produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.
