UFC’s Megan Olivi interviewed Alistair Overeem after his UFC on ESPN+ 7 main event win over Alexey Oleinik. Below are some highlights and a video of the interview. Overeem says he would like to face Alexander Volkov. Volkov was originally supposed to face Overeem in the main event for this fight card, but he was forced to withdraw due to health issues. Alistair Overeem on if he was ever in danger: “No, I was not, but he did try to submit me. You know there was the Ezekiel Choke attempts from the bottom. He was kind of doing some stuff. He was throwing some strikes. It might’ve looked like I was in trouble. It didn’t look too good, but I was very relaxed. I saw everything coming. I was not stressing or anything.”

Overeem on Oleinik’s striking approach: “He went for it. He wanted to make it a war, back-and-forth thing. In all that, I was thinking, ‘This is gonna take five rounds. I might want to take it easy because rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5 are still ahead. So just stay relaxed, and I’m gonna get my chance.”

Overeem on wanting to fight Alexander Volkov: “Definitely, he is a fight I would still like to have. I now have officially challenged him. That fight didn’t materialize tonight, but let’s go. I’m still very game for that fight.”
