Brock Lesnar Was Still in USADA Testing Pool Just Weeks Before ‘Retirement’ Announcement by Dana White

As previously reported, UFC President Dana White told ESPN this week that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar had “retired” from MMA and would not return for a title fight against current champion Daniel Cormier. Lesnar’s sudden decision to retire from MMA, if he indeed has, has led to questions regarding his USADA drug testing, which has been an issue for him in the past. TMZ Sports has some more details on Lesnar, including his drug testing for the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Lesnar had recently rejoined the USADA testing pool when it was expected he would make a return to MMA.

According to the TMZ report, Brock Lesnar was still submitting to official USADA drug testing weeks before he informed Dana White that he was retiring from MMA. A rep for USADA stated that Lesnar was in the testing pool and had submitted to nine drug tests over the last year. Two of those tests happened this year, with one in the first quarter and another test in April. The second test as recently as April 1 through April 18.

USADA did not disclose the results of Lesnar’s most recent tests. Previously, Lesnar failed a drug test for clomiphene after his UFC 200 fight with Mark Hunt, which was overturned to a no contest. As a result, Lesnar was suspended from MMA for one year.

Lesnar recently told sports blogger Rod Pedersen in April that he hadn’t decided yet on fighting Daniel Cormier but said he had been asked to do so.

With Lesnar off the table, UFC is now said to be looking into a potential rematch between Cormier and former champion Stipe Miocic. That fight has not yet been announced.
