Netflix’s live-action Sandman series has its main cast set, as revealed by the streamer today. Netflix announced on Thursday that Tom Sturridge (Velvet Buzzsaw) will play the titular role of Dream, aka Morpheus, in the adaptation of the landmark Neil Gaiman comic book series published under DC’s Vertigo line.

Also announced among the main cast are Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) as Lucifer and Vivienne Acheampong (The Witches) as Lucienne, the chief librarian of the Dreaming and a trusted guardian of Dream’s realm. Boyd Holbrook will play the Corinthian, a nightmare creation of Dream’s that escaped from his realm during an extended absence on Dream’s part and wishes to taste all that the world has in store. Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) will play charlatan magician and blackmailed Roderick Burgess.

Also cast are Asim Chaudhry (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Good Omens) as Abel and Cain, the first victim and murderer, who are loyal denizens of the Dreaming.

The series will follow the people and places affected by Morpheus (Sturridge), the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence. Gaiman is co-writing the series alongside David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg, all of whom are executive producing with Heinberg as showrunner.

“For the last thirty-three years, the Sandman characters have breathed and walked around and talked in my head. I’m unbelievably happy that now, finally, they get to step out of my head and into reality,” Gaiman said. “I can’t wait until the people out there get to see what we’ve been seeing as Dream and the rest of them take flesh, and the flesh belongs to some of the finest actors out there. This is astonishing, and I’m so grateful to the actors and to all of ‘The Sandman collaborators’ — Netflix, Warner Bros., DC, to Allan Heinberg and David Goyer, and the legions of crafters and geniuses on the show — for making the wildest of all my dreams into reality.”
