Gunther is set to battle John Cena in the latter’s farewell match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., on December 13.
The Ring General earned the opportunity by beating LA Knight in the final of The Last Time Is Now Tournament. Ahead of the historic occasion, Gunther opened up about the same during a recent interview with the New York Post Sports. As fans anticipate a fairytale finish to John Cena’s career, Gunther is aiming to ruin the party for one and all this weekend.
“Yeah, it’s a good possibility. It’s a good possibility to ruin the party for everyone. Because I think everybody is looking for a grand final match of John Cena. They are hoping for a very joyful ending to his career. And I am gonna do everything in my power to create the exact opposite,” Gunther said.
John Cena’s career is built on overcoming adversity and never giving up, and Gunther intends to force him to do just that by making the 17-time World Champion submit. He feels that if he can achieve that, then the memories of Cena’s retirement match in people’s minds will always be attached to him.
“It would be memorable. It’s also… He has had such a long career. He has been beaten before. Many guys have done it before. But I guess he hasn’t been submitted in a very, very long time. If I can achieve that, if I succeed in that, I think, Yeah, this farewell match will stick in people’s minds and stick in their memories and will always be attached to me.”
