On the latest episode of Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy, the TNA star talked about the word “botch,” calling it one of his “most hated words of all time.”
Hardy noted how the term has permeated wrestling culture, particularly among online fans, but stated it wasn’t common backstage in WWE during his tenure. You can check out some highlights below:
On the Word ‘Botch’:
“Botch, most hated words of all time. No one outside of AEW [uses it]. I feel like it’s AEW word.”
On Who Uses It:
“The Bucks like it a lot. I would say it around them. I mean, I feel like just that mentality. Like, ‘Oh my god, it was a botch’ or whatever else. You would never hear it in WWE back in the day. Even when we went back there, like you wouldn’t hear that word typically. I mean, people are aware of it. They know people say ‘botch’ and it has a negative connotation, obviously. And there’s sometimes where, I know there’s been times where Jeff would run up to do a Whisper in the Wind and intentionally slip. Like, ‘Oh yeah, people will just think it’s a botch, but it’ll be good. It’ll be a great way to start the heat.’ You know, we’ve done that a couple times.
“Even like, I did a couple takes at AJ’s — when he’s doing the springboard and we slipped off the ropes [at Saturday Night’s Main Event]. But I’m pretty sure his was a legitimate slip, so I guess it was a botch. But no, I did look back and say, ‘Oh, maybe he did it on purpose.’ Just because they — like, so smoothly. And Leon is 21 years old physically, but mentally he’s 30, or young 30s. He’s way ahead of his game mentally. So you know, he jumped right on top of him, covered, and they kept going seamlessly.”
