Backstage Update on Status of Tommaso Ciampa in WWE

In recent weeks, you might have noticed that Johnny Gargano of #DIY has appeared on WWE SmackDown, but there’s been no sign of his tag team partner, Tommaso Ciampa. Gargano also appeared on last night’s SmackDown, competing against newly crowned WWE US Champion Carmelo Hayes for the title in a losing effort. His wife, Candice LeRae, was with him, but no Ciampa. BodySlam+ now has an update on the former WWE Tag Team Champion.

According to the report, Ciampa’s WWE contract is nearly up, and he reportedly plans on finishing out his run in the company without a renewal. It’s currently unknown if Ciampa chose not to sign a new deal and plans on going elsewhere, or if he wants to take some time off without signing a new contract.

Tommaso Ciampa last appeared on the December 19 episode of WWE SmackDown, where he and Gargano lost to the team of Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes. A week earlier, Hayes lost a WWE US Title Open Challenge match against Dragunov.

Just over a year ago, #DIY beat The Motor City Machine Guns to win the WWE Tag Team Titles on the December 6, 2024 edition of SmackDown. They held the titles for 98 days, losing them to The Street Profits on SmackDown on March 5, 2025.
