If you think Cody Rhodes’ neck tattoo was a mistake, you’re in good company because so does he. Rhodes got the “American Nightmare” tattoo in AEW, debuting it at AEW Revolution 2020 where he faecd MJF.
The ink has been roundly mocked by the internet for the tattoo, and he admitted to Santino Marella on What Do You Wanna Talk About? that the ink was supposed to be much smaller and his his greatest regret. You can see the highlights below:
On Why It’s a Regret:
“I stand by the fact that I think the work is great and the artist is great. But I also will reveal, as I think I’ve revealed on this pod before — the neck tattoo, I would widely consider the greatest regret of my life. Oh yeah. And you know what? I’ll live with it. I am not gonna — I ain’t trying to get it removed, and we’re gonna rock this till the very end.
“But what I thought was, it was like here [on the lower throat] and it was like this [silver dollar sized]. And then when I saw it and it was in my jaw and it was so big — my life changed, looking in a mirror. If my dad was to come back to life, he would not say, ‘Congrats.’ He would lose his s**t. You’ve ruined yourself.'”
On His Relationship With the Tattoo:
“But it also is — it’s had some very beneficial elements of it. I don’t know if, I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s complicated, best way to put it — my relationship with my tattoo.”
