Update On Contract Statuses Of Acclaimed & Sheamus
With many talent rosters stacked these days, particularly AEW’s, it can be hard to keep track of who is actually still signed, and who’s just competing for TV time. Thanks to a recent update from Fightful Select, however, we now know the status of at least three big names who’ve held major gold in the past.
We knew Sheamus had said his farewell to WWE, and updated his social media accounts to his real name, Stephen Farrelly. We now have it confirmed that all no-compete windows are up, and he’s available to sign elsewhere. Sheamus held nearly every title in WWE during his tenure there, and would be a huge get for any company, but probably commands a higher fee than most would pay.
In AEW, Fightful reports that the Acclaimed, Max Caster and Anthony Bowens, had their contracts expire as of yesterday. They’re still listed on the AEW roster page and could still potentially sign a new deal, but WWE may have some interest — at one time, the Acclaimed were the hottest tag team around, as their association with Billy Gunn turned “Scissor me, Daddy Ass!” into a catchphrase that sold many T-shirts. They haven’t gotten as much of a push lately, and Gunn has been working with Brady Booker and Elijah Drago in Ring of Honor.
It’s hard to imagine either Sheamus or the Acclaimed will stay “homeless” for long. We shall stay tuned.
