It looks like Paramount Pictures is readying to bring the world of Street Samurais and Edgerunners to life. Deadline reports that a new live-action feature set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, the hit CD Projekt RED video game, is currently in the works at the studio.

Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to produce the feature along with CDPR, which is also the franchise rights holder. The video game is based on Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk tabletop game series, set in the fictional cyberpunk metropolis of Night City in California.

The video game follows a mercenary, V, who is imbued with a cybernetic biochip with an engram of a legendary rockstar and insurgent, Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves in the game). As Silverhand’s digital consciousness starts rewriting V’s, the duo must work together to find a solution to save V’s life and confront the Arasak Corporation, the powerful megacorp that controls the city.

Despite a multitude of issues surrounding the game’s launch in December 2020, later updates fixed many of the bugs and problems. The game has since sold over 40 million copies worldwide.

Paramount has multiple video game adaptations in the works. Legendary’s Street Fighter movie, based on the iconic Capcom fighting game series, debuts in theaters from Paramount next week. A live-action Call of Duty movie from director Peter Berg and writer Taylor Sheridan is also being readied for a June 30, 2028 release date. Of course, Paramount also has Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the next installment of its popular Sonic film franchise, which hits theaters on March 19, 2027.

Cyberpunk 2077 Feature Film in the Works at Paramount

It’s unclear if Paramount and CDPR are looking to directly adapt the 2077 video game or perhaps develop a story set within the universe. However, the report uses the wording, “a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe,” suggesting it will be the latter.

That would be similar to two other Cyberpunk 2077 spinoffs. CDPR previously collaborated with anime studio Trigger for the acclaimed anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, set within the world of the games, which debuted on Netflix in 2022.

The 10-episode series takes place about a year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077. A new sequel series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, debuts on Netflix on October 20, 2026.
