Kyle Fletcher Shares His Thoughts On Being Compared To Randy Orton
Kyle Fletcher finds himself compared to Randy Orton often, which is something he has a lot of thoughts about. The AEW star is often compared to Orton by fans because of their similar look, particularly after he shaved his head.
Fletcher appeared on What Happened When with Tony Schiavone and was asked about the Orton comparisons, as well as the origin of his “Say my full name” catchphrase. He noted that he doesn’t see the Orton comparisons in a negative way and considered it flattering at first, though he wants to carve his own parth and hopes that people think of him in the same way they do Orton when he’s had as many years in the business. You can see the highlights below (per Fightful):
On the Comparisons To Randy Orton:
“When I first started hearing it, it was that reaction of, ‘Aw man, Randy Orton is great. I love Randy Orton.’ To be mentioned in the same sentence as him was awesome. At the same time, any wrestler should want to carve their own path. I think that I’ve started to do so. It’s hard to compare us because Randy is 30 years into the business and has won 14 world championships. Obviously, I’m not at that level yet. I would like to that, by the time my career is said and done, people will be doing the same thing to me. I don’t take it as a negative thing. It makes me more determined to carve my own path.”
On the Origin Of ‘Say My Full Name:
“‘Say my full name’ was something I said once in a promo and I can’t remember who, but somebody texted me and was like, ‘You should keep saying that.’ My idea behind it was when you address someone you respect, you would say their full name. ‘Hello Mr. Kyle Fletcher, how are you?’ That was the idea behind it. I wanted people to show their respect to me. The flipside, as a villain, I could refer to people by a shorthand or one name, and show disrespect in return,” he said.
