Kyle Fletcher Responds to Being Compared to Will Ospreay and Randy Orton

Kyle Fletcher has addressed frequent comparisons to Will Ospreay and Randy Orton, saying he appreciates the praise but wants to define himself on his own terms. The AEW standout discussed the topic during a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet.

The conversation comes during a strong stretch in Fletcher’s AEW run. He is a former TNT Champion and remains firmly in the spotlight. In the Continental Classic Gold League, he currently sits near the top with a 2–1 record. Fletcher acknowledged that fans often link his in-ring style to Ospreay. Others point to his shaved-head look and calm presence as reminiscent of Orton. He said those names carry weight, and the comparisons are flattering.

He described Ospreay as incredible and credited Orton as one of wrestling’s most established performers. Fletcher admitted hearing those parallels initially felt validating. Over time, however, the repetition has changed how he views them.

“It’s one of those things where for a hot second you take it as a compliment, and it’s like, at surface level it’s like, Oh, thanks. I think Will’s incredible at what he does. So I take that as a compliment. But then I feel like, the more I sit with it, and the more I hear it, the more it makes me go, No, I don’t want to be anyone else. I don’t want to be the second coming of Will Ospreay. I think after shaving the head, I got a lot of Randy Orton [comparisons], and it’s like the same feeling of at first, that’s really cool, that’s a great comparison. But I really want to start carving my own path, and I don’t want to be the second anybody else. So, yeah, I think that’s kind of what I’m focusing on, and just trying to carve my own path.”

Rather than frustration, Fletcher said the comparisons now serve as motivation. He explained that his goal is to build an identity where audiences see him as Kyle Fletcher first. He does not want to be framed as a replacement or extension of another wrestler’s legacy. He understands why the similarities are noticed. Still, he believes long-term success depends on separating himself from surface-level resemblances.

His recent performances reflect a broader approach. Fletcher combines speed and athletic timing with confidence on the microphone. He has previously cited influences such as The Miz, John Cena, and MJF in discussions of promo development. Fletcher has moved beyond tag team expectations and established himself as a consistent singles presence.
