Kyle Fletcher Reveals Being Inspired By The Miz, John Cena, MJF and Other Top Stars

Kyle Fletcher has detailed the wrestlers who influenced his promo style, naming The Miz as an early inspiration. The AEW star shared his take during an appearance on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, addressing long-running fan debate around that choice.

Fletcher said his interest in promos started young. He recalled being 12 years old in 2011, watching WWE closely. According to him, The Miz’s confidence, timing, and “I’m awesome” catchphrase immediately stood out. He explained that Miz’s delivery made him pay attention to how words could shape perception.

The AEW star acknowledged that The Miz’s promo work is sometimes questioned online. He noted that appreciation for Miz has grown as fans reassess his career. Fletcher said the influence was obvious to him from the start, regardless of public opinion.

“This always gets a bit of a laugh. Growing up, I’m a little bit younger than a lot of wrestling fans. One of the people who first drew me with their promos was The Miz. A lot of people have things to say about him now, but I still think he’s one of the best. I think I’ve always thought that. That’s always how it happens as well. It’s like, when they’re on the way out, it’s like, oh yeah, you know what? He’s pretty good. But I was 12 years old in 2011 going, This is the best. ‘I’m awesome!’ So, yeah, that was probably my first one.”

Fletcher then pointed to John Cena as his top promo benchmark. He described Cena as the best talker he has ever watched, adding that his farewell run featured segments that kept Kyle fully locked in.

“I think Cena is far and away the best promo guy I’ve ever seen. The stuff in his final run, there have been a couple where I’ve just been sitting there glued to the screen like how is this guy just so amazing at what he does?”

Beyond Miz and Cena, Fletcher listed several current influences like Roman Reigns, Hangman Page, Samoa Joe, and MJF.

“Roman, obviously, now. Then there’s Hangman, I think is one of the best guys on the mic. Joe, every time he’s on the mic, I’m so drawn into him. MJF, as well. Those are kind of probably where I draw the most inspiration from. I’d say those guys.”

These comments align with Fletcher’s earlier remarks on The Ringer’s Masked Man Show. In that interview, he named Jeff Hardy, Kenny Omega, and Jushin Thunder Liger as inspirations. The Miz reference, however, continues to generate the most discussion.

Fletcher broke out as a singles competitor in 2024. He held the TNT Championship for nearly four months. His momentum has continued into the Continental Classic. Through three Gold League matches, Fletcher holds a 2–1 record and sits near the top of the standings.
