E3 will not take place this year, with the gaming industry event officially canceled. IGN reports that the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been cancelled with an email that was sent to retailers on Thursday.

The email noted that while E3 “remains a beloved event and brand… [the 2023 iteration] simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

As a result, both the digital and physical events have been cancelled. The email noted that they will continue its advocacy work, and a press release noted that ReedPop and the ESA will continue to work together on “future E3 events.”

The con was originally set for June 13th through the 16th in Los Angeles, and would have been the first in-person E3 event since 2019. A digital version was held in 2021, though the event was cancelled for 2022.

The cancellation comes after several industry heavyweights like Xbox, Ubisoft, Nintendo and Playstation had announced that they would not be attending.
