Chris Weidman Loses Appeal of UFC 210 Loss

July 4, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Chris Weidman’s loss to Gegard Mousasi will not be overturned. MMA Fighting reports that Weidman’s appeal, which came after instant replay was used after referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the action due to knees by Mousasi to Weidman’s head, was denied. Miragliotta had consulted with John McCarthy at cage-side and McCarthy correctly determined the knees to be legal after having seen the replay. It was believed at the time that the NYAC couldn’t use instant replays for the events that they oversee but days later, the commission confirmed in a statement instant replays are “officially allowed.”

Wedidman told the MMA hour, “I just got it back in the mail yesterday…I did not win the appeal. I don’t think it was anything we didn’t expect. I didn’t even read it. My wife was reading it.”

He added, “I guess when there’s something that happens inside of the Octagon and it has to do with an injury the commission is allowed to look at the replay. I guess, something like that is what it is about. The rules that were explained to us are that there was no replay. If something happens where there is an injury they are allowed to look at it. That’s pretty much what I heard from my wife…Either way, I didn’t put my eggs in that basket. I would’ve been kind of surprised (if they had reversed the decision). For them to admit they were wrong, I would’ve been kind of surprised.”

Weidman said that he doesn’t expect to be treated any differently by the commission for his next fight against Kelvin Gastelum, noting, “If they decide to make it awkward (they can), but I’m not going to let them have any power over me or make me feel awkward. I’m going to be fighting in my home state with all of my fans in front of my fans, my friends and my family. I’m going to be very comfortable. If they get weird about things, that’s on them. I won’t let that affect me.”
