Daniel Weichel Says Bellator 138 Loss Was a Tough One

December 3, 2015 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Daniel Weichel spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Georgi Karakhanyan at Bellator 147 and more. Check out the highlights:

On learning from his loss to Patricio Freire: “It was a tough, tough loss to me. It took me some time thinking about it. But I have a great team, a great family that supports me, and it’s what makes me look forward and continue working on my goals. It was the kind of experience you take and learn from it. That’s what I try to do. I try to find what I can learn from it to look forward and continue to go for my goal.”

On what led to the loss: “I was a little bit too aggressive in the second round and lost my focus. With a guy like ‘Pitbull,’ you can’t lose your focus for one moment. If you do you pay for it. I will never lose my focus in a fight again. I will be sharp and 100 percent concentrated for my fights. Preparation, training camp and game plan for the last fight was perfect. There was nothing I would have changed regarding that so my team prepared me perfectly for the fight so there was nothing I had to change. I just have to be focused.”

On his fight with Karakhanyan: “This is what I wanted; I wanted a top guy in the division and beating him puts me right back in there for a title run. The belt is the ultimate goal so I have to fight the top guys in the division to get there. My mindset is always for the Bellator gold. That was the goal from the beginning. I’ve trained for this fight like it’s a title fight.”

On his goal: “My goal is to be the first German Bellator champion. I will do everything and I will put everybody away who is in front of me. I haven’t really thought about that. It doesn’t matter to me who is champion. It doesn’t matter who has the belt. I’m willing to fight anybody.”
