Ian Entwistle Says He Doesn’t Like Doing Anything Other Than Fighting

April 9, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Ian Entwistle (9-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) spoke about fighting back from injury to make his UFC return. He will fight Alejandro Perez (16-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 86, which takes place tomorrow at the Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia. It airs on FOX Sports 1 after preliminary fights on UFC Fight Pass. Here are highlights:

On his time away from fighting: “It’s been hard. I won a bonus in my last fight. From there, I hit the gym literally the day after and was doing six hours, seven hours in the gym, knowing that they promised me to fight. I always had an idea I’d be fighting (at UFC Fight Night 72 in Scotland in July 2015). What happened, basically, was after five months, six months of doing that, thinking I’ve got it, I’ve got it and being so excited that people couldn’t pull me out of the gym, my body broke.”

On his injury: “I had a problem with my knee. I damaged my meniscus. It’s my own fault, you know? You live and learn. Your body is only human, no matter how much you think it isn’t and it’s unbreakable. That put me out. I was injured four weeks before the UFC Glasgow fight, even before they even announced me. Since then, I’ve been back up and running since almost Christmas.”

On loving his job: “I have a mental problem. I don’t like doing anything else. It’s like, what do I do? I don’t drink, so it’s the only thing I do, the only thing I enjoy doing. I train, and that’s where I get my enjoyment. Everyone gets their enjoyment out of other things. To me, it’s amazing I get to do something I love so much and I get paid. It’s great.”
