Josh Samman Likes Matchup Against Tim Boetsch
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Josh Samman (12-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) spoke about his upcoming fight with Tim Boetsch at tonight’s UFC Fight Night 91. It happens at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Here are highlights:
On how he feels about the fight: “I like the matchup a lot – I’m not going to lie,” Samman told MMAjunkie. “Tim is obviously a dangerous guy – he’s got a whole boatload of knockouts. But those were years ago. I just think I’m more dangerous. I have more tools. It’s kind of a clichéd answer, but when you go and look objectively at it, he’s got an overhand right, he’s got a nice left hook, and he’s got a double-leg (takedown). So I’ve been preparing for those things all camp, (and) unless he comes out with something crazy then I’m prepared for anything he has to throw.”
On not overthinking it: “Going into this fight, I’m sticking to what I know: Just keeping it exciting. That’s always been my M.O., just being an entertaining fighter – and the results come all the time. I was fighting in front of my home town and my home crowd in Florida, and I was so worried about getting the win. I just need to go back to doing what I do best. I feel like I adjusted too much. You can’t go back and criticize yourself too much, because had I realized my game plan against anybody but Tamdan, I still think it would’ve worked. It just didn’t work that day. Water under the bridge. I just don’t beat myself up too much about it. ”
