Matt Mitrione’s Appeal of UFC Fight Night 81 Loss Denied
Matt Mitrione’s UFC Fight Night 81 loss stands. The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission voted unanimously today on Mitrione’s appeal of his loss to Travis Browne at the Nanuary event, denying a request to overturn the result and electing not to discipline the referee for the bout. MMAjunkie confirmed the news with Browne’s manager John Fosco as well as MSAC spokesperson Jen Cobis.
Mitrione’s appeal was filed because he argued the bought should have been made a no contest due to multiple eyepokes from Browne, which the referee did not penalize for. Mitrione claimed that the pokes were intentional and that the referee disregarded the rules by not disqualifying Browne.
The loss was the last fight on Mitrione’s UFC contract; he then signed with Bellator MMA.
