Patricky Freire Won’t Let Bellator 147 Fight Go to the Judges
Patricky Freire spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Derek Anderson at Bellator 147. Check out the highlights:
On wanting a fight with Dave Jansen: “I wanted to face him because he fought very well against Brooks. I wanted to feel how I’d perform against him, since he has a highly strategic game. Perhaps it would be similar to facing Will Brooks himself.”
On facing Anderson: “I had asked to fight Derek again, before I fought Awad, but he wasn’t interested. But now the moment has arrived. He’s coming off a loss. I’m coming off a win, and I expect to erase that loss from my record in the best way.”
On his desire to finish the fight: “This fight, I don’t want to leave it to the judges. I thought I had defeated Derek when we fought before. Unfortunately, he was chosen as the victor. I don’t want that to happen again. I’ll finish this fight as early as possible. Perhaps on the second round. It will be a very strategic fight. I’m confident I won’t feel rusty. It will be a better fight than our first meeting, since we both fought not long ago. I expect to have a great battle.”
On a potential title shot after: “If it doesn’t happen, that’s fine. I just don’t want to sit around. I want tough opponents, so I can train hard and remain motivated. So, when it’s my time to fight for the belt, I’ll be ready. If Bellator wants me to fight for the belt immediately after my next victory, so be it. I’ll be ready for (Brooks), regardless. I saw a video where he said his knee was injured, as I recall. He needed to check with his doctor. So I’ll wait to hear an update, and I’ll just train for my next fight.”
