The 411 Interview: Lou Ferrigno

Lou Ferrigno is nothing short of a pop culture icon. From his mega successful body building career to his iconic run as the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk TV series and trio of TV movies, to a solid action movie career (Hercules, Sinbad of the Seven Seas, Cage, among others) to a brilliant recurring role on the sitcom King of Queens and so much more, Ferrigno has been a beloved figure the world over for decades. Ferrigno’s latest effort is a featured part in the wonderful comedy short Perps, which is now available to watch on YouTube. In this interview, Ferrigno talks with this writer about making Perps, his career, and more.

Bryan Kristopowitz: How did you get involved with the short film Perps?

Lou Ferrigno: I was contacted by my agent and good friend Tina Presley. She told me about this new comedy short and I wanted to be a part of it.

BK: What was it like working with Perps director Alejandro Montoya Marin?

LF: Working with Alejandro was a joy considering we had so little time to shoot the film. He was so natural and open to any ideas. It was great.

BK: What was it like working with Tamas Nadas?

LF: Tamas was great and easy to work with. A real pro. The whole cast was great. I wish we had more time to work together.

BK: You’re well known for working in the action genre (The Incredible Hulk TV show, the Hercules movies, Cage) and the comedy genre (The King of Queens). Do you have a preference for either or is it all about the part and the material?

LF: Yes, as long as the material is solid and I can adapt my character to it I’m open to anything. Both genres are fun.

BK: What was it like working on The King of Queens?

LF: King of Queens was a blast. Loved having the chance to work with those iconic actors. I also loved filming in front of a live audience and the instant gratification of that situation.

BK: Any chance of a sequel to the awesome action movie Instant Death?

LF: I would love to do a sequel to Instant Death. It’s all about the script and raising the finances.

BK: Any upcoming projects you can tell us about?

LF: My upcoming projects are Guest House, a comedy with Billy Zane, and a horror film Cranial Sacral.

BK: What do you hope viewers get out of watching Perps?

LF: Laughs and fun. It’s a great short comedy. Viewers and my fans will love it.
