Emmy Nominations Announced: Game of Thrones Leads Pack With 22, Netflix Tops HBO

The Television Academy announced the nominations for the 70th Emmy Awards earlier today. The Emmy Award nominations were announced today by Television Academy Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington, The Handmaid’s Tale star Samira Wiley, and Ryan Eggold of NBC’s upcoming New Amsterdam.

Netflix outpaced HBO this year with the most nominations, with a total of 112 noms for the streaming service over HBO’s 108. It’s the first time HBO failed to lead nominations for the Emmy Awards in 18 years. NBC came in third with 78.

Game of Thrones managed to lead the pack this year for shows with 22 nominations overall. It was followed by Saturday Night Live and Westworld, which each scored 21 nominations.

The 70th Annual Emmy Awards will air on NBC on Sunday, September 17. The award ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The show will be hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che. Here’s the full list of nominees for this year’s Emmy Awards.
