The cast of Roseanne have publicly commented on the show’s cancellation, with lead star Roseanne Barr taking responsibility. ABC cancelled the hit revival after Barr called Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett, an Iranian-born African-American, combination of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes.

Barr made two statements. In the first, she posted to Twitter to apologize to the cast and crew “who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet.” Her second post was longer and more detailed, released through Buzzfeed’s Kate Authur:

Emma Kenney, who played Darlene (Sara Gilbert)’s daughter Harris on the show, said that she had called to quit the show and was told it was cancelled. She applauded the decision, noting, “Bullies will NEVER win.” Michael Fishman, who played D.J. Connor on both the original show and revival, said, “I feel devastated, not for the end of the Roseanne show, but for all those who poured their hearts and souls into our jobs, and the audience that welcomed us into their homes.” He added, “I condemn these statements vehemently,” referring to Barr’s comments. “They are reprehensible and intolerable, contradicting my beliefs and outlook on life and society. I have always lived and taught my children to be inclusive. I believe our show strived to embrace different backgrounds and opinions, through open dialogue.”
