Clark Gregg spoke with EW about his reprising the role of Agent Coulson in the upcoming Captain Marvel, including his relationship with Nick Fury. Gregg said the film “might be the rodeo,” referring to his line in Iron Man where he said that his encounter with Tony Stark wasn’t his first rodeo.

“There was something really special about going back to the early days when he was just kind of coming up the ranks,” Gregg said about the 1990s-set film. “I had to take innocence workshops and go back to when he was a little less crusty and jaded! He’s a relatively new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is obsessed with MC Hammer and dresses just like him, and it makes Fury so angry. The genie pants don’t really go with the Armani.”

Gregg said that Coulson’s first interaction with Fury as a “meet-cute moment…[but] I don’t think Sam will put it that way.”

The film is set to release on March 8th, 2019.
