Hawkeye is entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No, I know we have that Hawkeye…the other Hawkeye. Variety reports that Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Clint Barton in the planned adventure limited series, which will see Barton pass the torch onto Kate Bishop.

Like the other announced series like Loki and Vision and the Scarlet Witch, the Hawkeye series will run six to eight episodes and will be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige

Kate Bishop is the creation of Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, and made her debut in Young Avengers #1 in 2005. Kate quickly grew to become one of the most popular members of the Young Avengers and has maintained a close, if often somewhat barbed, relationship with her mentor. Lest people be concerned that this signifies the end of Renner’s run as the character, it should be noted that both Hawkeyes are still active in the comics universe, and indeed often work together.

Disney and Marvel declined to comment on the story. Renner will next be seen as the elder Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame on April 26th.
