Clive Barker Joins HBO’s Hellraiser Series As Executive Producer
It was reported earlier this year that Halloween director David Gordon Green was developing a new Hellraiser series for HBO, with designs to direct the pilot and other episodes. That series has a little more credibility, as Deadline reports that Clive Barker has signed on to executive produce.
Barker, of course, is the director and screenwriter of the original 1987 film, which was based on his own novella The Hellbound Heart.
Mark Verheiden will write the series and serve as the showrunner. Verheiden and Barker executive produce along with Michael Dougherty, Farah Films’ Dan Farah, Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee, Rough House Pictures partners Green, Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Brandon James. Other executive producers include Panacea’s Eric Gardner, Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman, and Marc Toberoff, as well as Farah Films’ Andrew Farah and Adam Salzman.
In a statement, Barker said he was “delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.”
Farah added: “Hellraiser started with Clive’s imagination and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board.“
