After a disappointing debut weekend at the box office which saw it deliver the lowest opening of any X-Men movie ever, Dark Phoenix is now estimated to lose $100 to $120 million, according to Deadline.

The film cost $350 million to make, and with box office totals now projected to be between $300 and $325 million, after the studio splits the revenue with theaters, the losses are expected to end up in the $100 to $120 million range.

Deadline adds that the film’s climax was not changed due to similarities to Captain Marvel but because test audiences weren’t happy with the film’s third act. The other issue was the film was originally slated to be released before Captain Marvel, which would have made it the first female-led Marvel movie, and was meant to be an off-season release and not a summer one.
