Director David F. Sandberg is working on the script for Shazam! 2, even as he acknowledges the possibility of a delay in filming. Sandberg, who directed the first film and is back for another go, spoke with ComicBook.com and provided an update on the sequel.

“Well, we’ll see how long this goes, because I mean, we were going to start shooting this year,” Sandberg said. “But, I mean, who knows how long this [pandemic] will go on? I mean, it feels like every movie gets delayed now, so we’ll see what happens with Shazam!. But so far, I’ve been working on the script. We can still do that, so that’s being done and then, yeah, we’ll just see in a couple of months how it looks, you know?”

The film was originally scheduled for a mid-summer shoot but that is definitely in question as no one is sure when the COVID-19 pandemic will ease up enough for films to begin shooting again. The film is set to release in 2022.
