DC Studios and HBO Max have finally debuted the teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action series, Lanterns. The new series debuts on HBO Max later this August. You can check out the newly revealed teaser trailer below.
The new show highlights the unlikely partnership between the veteran Green Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and his new protege, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), as they investigate a dark and foreboding mystery in the American heartland. The series also stars Kelly Macdonald as a local police officer investigating a murder, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen.
The new series offers a glimpse of a Green Lantern suit. Also, Jordan says he doesn’t talk to the other Green Lanterns as he’s the only human, and all the others are aliens, noting, “One of them’s a ****ing squirrel,” in reference to the Green Lantern Corps. member, Ch’p.
Jordan’s dialogue suggests that the show is set before last year’s Superman movie, which introduces Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) as a human member of the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps. That is, unless Jordan just massively hates Guy and refuses to acknowledge his existence.
The series’ pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as the series showrunner. The first two episodes of Lanterns are directed by James Hawes. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov also serve as episode directors in the first season.
The upcoming show is executive-produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes. It’s based on DC’s Green Lantern comics and characters. Lanterns will debut on HBO Max later this August. It does not yet have a final premiere date.
