Gal Gadot Developing Wonder Woman 3 With James Gunn & Peter Safran

Gal Gadot’s time with Wonder Woman doesn’t sound over yet, as she says she’s developing a third film with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Gadot spoke with ComicBook.com before the SAG-AFTRA strike to promote her Netflix film Heart of Stone and noted that she is working with Gunn and Safran on a third film.

“I love portraying Wonder Woman,” Gadot said. “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

The move comes after Gadot’s Wonder Woman franchise appeared to be finished. The actress starred in the very well-regarded 2017 film before Wonder Woman 1984 released largely through HBO Max in December of 2020 due to the pandemic and was much less beloved. Safran and Gunn took over DC Studios and announced the plans for the first chapter of the new DC Universe in February. It included a new series titled Paradise Lost set on Diana’s home of Themyscira, but takes place before her birth.

Patty Jenkins, who wrote and directed the first two films, had a third film in development with Gadot returning but that film was scrapped in December as Gunn and Safran worked to lay out their plans going forward.

It’s not currently clear if the third Wonder Woman film will be part of the main continuity or will exist as an “Elseworlds” project, which encompasses films outside of the main continuity like the Robert Pattinson-led The Batman and it’s sequel, the Joker films and such.
