Deadline reports that Robbie Coltrane, who played the gentle giant Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, has passed away at the age of 72. He had been in poor health in the last two years and died at a hospital near his home in Larbert, Scotland. He is survived by his two children.

He was also known for his roles as Dr. Edward ‘Fitz’ Coltrane in the British drama series Cracker, as well as Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in Goldeneye and The World is Not Enough. He also had roles in movies like Nuns on the Run, Mona Lisa and Ocean’s 12. He won three BAFTA best actor awards for Cracker, something that’s only been done before by Michael Gambon, another Harry Potter alum.

411 would like to give our condolences to his family, friends and fans.
