HBO Max is teaming with J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot for new TV series based on DC’s Justice League Dark and The Shining. The soon-to-launch streaming service announced today that it has given production commitments to three one-hour dramas from Bad Robot, including Overlook and an as-yet-unnamed show based on the DC supernatural comic book series.

Details are still yet to be revealed for the Justice League Dark series. Overlook, on the other hand, will be inspired by and feature characters from The Shining. It is described as a series that “explores the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction.” Bad Robot previously teamed with Warner Bros. TV, who are also part of the shows, on Hulu’s Castle Rock which was based on King’s fictional setting of many of his novels.

Also announced was Duster, which will be co-written by Abrams & LaToya Morgan (The Walking Dead). The show is described as follows:

Set in the 1970’s Southwest, the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate goes from awful to wildly, stupidly, dangerously awful.

What an amazing start to our association with the wildly imaginative Bad Robot team under J.J. and Katie,” said Kevin Reilly, Chief Content Officer, HBO Max and President, TNT, TBS, & truTV. “What could be better than an original J.J. idea and then Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic I.P. from Stephen King and the DC Universe and to provide more must-have programming on HBO Max.”

HBO Max is set to launch next month and will be the exclusive home for Friends and The Big Bang Theory. It will also host original shows including takes on Gossip Girl, The Boondocks, Gremlins, Grease, and Green Lantern.
