Deadline reports that Henry Cavill is in talks to star in Chad Stahelski’s upcoming Highlander reboot, where he will be in one of the lead roles. Stahelski (John Wick) will direct from a script by Kerry Williamson (Alex Cross).

The reboot will be produced by Neal H. Moritz and Josh Davis, with Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger and Gregory Widen executive producing. Peter Davis, who produced the 1986 original, was set to produce before he died back in February.

The original film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. It follows the tale of immortal beings who could become more powerful by hunting down and killing the others, as the only way to kill an immortal in this universe is by decapitation. There were four sequels and three TV shows. It’s unknown what the plot of the new film will be or if Cavill is playing a new character or one from the earlier films.

Cavill wrote on Instagram: “Very exciting news today! I’ve been a fan of Highlander since I was lad. From the movies in all of their 80s, Queen slathered glory to the TV show with an actor who looked remarkably like one of my brothers. Being not shy with swords, and having a director as talented as Chad Stahelski at the helm, this is an opportunity like no other. Deep diving into franchise storytelling with all the tools at our disposal, is going to make this an adventure I (and hopefully all of you) shall never forget. And as you can see from the swipe, I’ve lately been dipping into some of my Scottish heritage, and inadvertently getting my base line research underway!
