James Gunn Reportedly Turned in Superman: Legacy First Draft Before WGA Strike
James Gunn managed to get his first draft for Superman: Legacy completed before the WGA went on strike, according to a new report. As reported, Gunn is writing the script for the film, which will kick off Chapter One of the new DC Universe. The Writers’ Guild of America went on strike on Tuesday morning, and The Wrap reports that Gunn turned in the first draft of the script last week.
The WGA is striking over a variety of issues that they were unable to come to terms with in negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers including the use of AI in script-writing, residuals from streaming, health care and minimum wages for television and film writers.
Pre-production on Superman: Legacy began last month for the film, which Gunn is in the midst of casting. The film is not expected to be affected by the strike as a February 2024 production start is planned. The film is set to release on July 11th, 2025.
