James Wan Reportedly Developing New Frankenstein Film

November 21, 2019 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

It appears as if James Wan is putting together a new take on Frankenstein for Universal Pictures. Bloody Disgusting reports that a now-deleted detail in a Variety report said that Universal is meeting with directors for a new film based on their classic monster property, and that Wan is producing via his Atomic Monster shingle.

This would be the latest attempt by Universal to bring one of their classic horror monsters to the big screen. The studio stumbled with recent entries Dracula Untold and The Mummy, the latter of which saw the plug get pulled on their “Dark Universe” plans. They are set to release a lower-budget, more character-driven take on The Invisible Man in February of next year; you can see the trailer for that film here.

There’s no word currently on what the potential new film’s direction will be. Frankenstein has been adapted multiple times for the big screen and even the small screen with the ill-fated 2016 series Second Chance.
