Jared Leto Would ‘Definitely’ Play The Joker Again
Jared Leto may not be most people’s favorite Joker, but he’d be willing to give it another go. Speaking with Variety, Leto says he would absolutely reprise the role he played in Suicide Squad if the situation was right.
“I would definitely play the Joker again,” Leto says. “It all depends on the script and the circumstances as it always does.”
Leto’s Joker was, to say the least, a polarizing part of Suicide Squad for a host of reasons, from Leto’s thuggish portrayal of the Batman villain to the character’s look and even complaints that he was in the film far less than the marketing suggested. But the film was still a success, with Warner Bros. accountants if not with critics, bringing in $746.8 million worldwide against its $175 million budget.
Leto played coy on rumors that he cameos as Joker in the Harley Quinn-starring Birds of Prey, saying, “I don’t think so. You’d have to ask them…Well, we’ll see.”
Leto also said that he hasn’t seen the trailer for Todd Phillips’ Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix but supports it, saying that superhero films have been great for the box office, “I mean, five or 10 years ago, I don’t know if we thought that there would be people this excited about going to the movies this weekend,” he said, referencing Avengers: Endgame.
