Avatar 2 is returning to production next week according to producer Jon Landau. Landau posted to his Instagram account to share a pic of a couple of ships from the upcoming film and added that they will be back filming in New Zealand last week.

Landau posted:

Our #Avatar sets are ready — and we couldn’t be more excited to be headed back to New Zealand next week. Check out the Matador, a high speed forward command vessel (bottom) and the Picador jetboat (top) — can’t wait to share more.

The film shut down production in March over concerns about COVID-19. New Zealand has announced that in the wake of the government approving its health and safety protocols, film and television production is being allowed to return to work. James Cameron revealed in an interview earlier this month that he expected the film to be able to make its December 17th, 2021 release date.
