Us Movie Jordan Peele

Jordan Peele’s latest horror film Us is looking at a monster opening in the $35 million-plus range. As JoBlo reports, the film, which opens on March 22nd, is currently estimated from various sites to open with at least $35 million, with $40 million entirely possible.

As always, a caveat: it’s still a few weeks out from the film’s opening weekend and tracking can change as film’s draw closer to release. In particular, if Us gets near the kind of critical acclaim that Peele’s Get Out did it coulds drive buzz and anticipation higher. Get Out opened to $33 million in February of 2017 and rode the wave of acclaim to a stellar $176 million domestically.

Us is written and directed by Peele and stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Elizabeth Moss, Cali Sheldon, and Noelle Sheldon and opens wide on March 15th. Set in present day along the iconic Northern California coastline, it stars Nyong’o as Adelaide Wilson, a woman returning to her beachside childhood home with her husband, Gabe (Duke), and their two children (Joseph, Alex) for an idyllic summer getaway.

Haunted by an unexplainable and unresolved trauma from her past and compounded by a string of eerie coincidences, Adelaide feels her paranoia elevate to high-alert as she grows increasingly certain that something bad is going to befall her family.

After spending a tense beach day with their friends, the Tylers (Moss, Tim Heidecker, Sheldon, Sheldon), Adelaide and her family return to their vacation home. When darkness falls, the Wilsons discover the silhouette of four figures holding hands as they stand in the driveway. Us pits an endearing American family against a terrifying and uncanny opponent: doppelgängers of themselves.
