Marvel is bringing the X-Force posse back together, and they have revenge on their minds. The company announced that a new X-Force comic series is set to launch in December, written by Ed Brisson (Extermination) with art by Dylan Burnett (Cosmic Ghost Rider). The series will spin out of the events of Extermination, which saw Cable die at the hands of a younger version of himself.

“Coming out of Extermination, Domino, Shatterstar, Cannonball, and Warpath are reeling from the loss of their mentor and have unanswered questions,” Brisson told “They’re on the hunt for this new Kid Cable to get those answers—some want his head, some just want to talk to him to find out what the hell is going on. Is this really their Cable? Is this an impostor?”

He continued, “We’re going to learn more about Kid Cable and establish what sets him apart for the Cable that people know. We’re going to get into his history and have some really exciting stories cooking with a laundry list of X-Force villains. There are layers to be peeled back, but nothing is what it initially seems.”

The series will also feature Deathlok as a member of the team. His role was not made immediately clear in the announcement, with the synopsis reading, “The mutants rise from the ashes of Extermination to hunt down Cable’s killer, but when their target is the time-traveling younger version of their fallen leader, is there a line they absolutely cannot cross? And what does Deathlok have to do with it all?”

“X-Force has always been the one X-team that stood out the most for me,” added Burnett. “A lot of my favorite mutants have belonged to it over the years (namely Cable and Psylocke) but being able to bring back the original lineup in a new way is a huge honor. They’re just a bunch of badasses. It’s dope. I’m stoked.”

X-Force has been a major part of the X-Men line of comics since 1991, when Rob Liefeld relaunched the New Mutants comic he had just taken over as X-Force. Led by Cable, the initial group included Cannonball, Shatterstar, Feral, Boom-Boom and Warpath, with Copycat working on the team in disguise as Domino. Dom eventually joined the team in 1994. Like all of the X-teams, X-Force has gone through several iterations over the years but has generally taken on the role of the more violent team, occasionally even serving as a sort of “black ops” for the mutant heroes.

The first issue releases on December 26th. The first cover image is below.
