Paramount has cut short their plans to shoot Mission: Impossible 8 immediately after the about-to-wrap seventh film. Deadline reports that the studio has altered their original plans to film the eighth film in the blockbuster franchise immediately after Mission: Impossible 7 finishes production, which perhaps surprisingly is not due to the pandemic.

Instead, the site reports that the delay is due to Paramount’s currently-crowded release schedule. Tom Cruise has to promote Top Gun: Maverick soon ahead of that film’s July 2nd release, and that marketing campaign will take a lot of time, which makes his being in Australia to film M: I 8 impossible right now. Once Top Gun: Maverick promotion is complete, Cruise will return to start filming the eighth entry.

Mission: Impossible 7 is directed by Chris McQuarrie and is currently set for a November 19th theatrical release. It stars Cruise, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, and Esai Morales.
