NBC Developing Night Court Sequel With John Larroquette Returning
The classic 1980s sitcom Night Court is getting a sequel, with original star John Larroquette set to return. Deadline reports that NBC is developing a follow-up to the court series that would see Larroquette reprise his role as prosecutor Dan Fielding.
Melissa Rauch, who played Bernadette on The Big Bang Theory, is executive producing the new series for Warner Bros TV. The new series will focus on Abby Stone, the daughter of Judge Harry Stone from the original series. Abby is described as an “unapologetic optimist” who is following in her late dad’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.
Larroquette is also producing the series, which is being written and executive produced by Dan Rubin (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). The original show aired from 1984 to 1992 and starred the late Harry Anderson as Harry Stone, Markie Post as public defender Christine Sullivan, Richard Moll, as bailiff Bull Shannon, and Charles Robinson, as court clerk Mac Robinson. It earned several Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including three for Outstanding Comedy Series, two for Harry Anderson for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and four (all wins) for Larroquette for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
