Fans of Locke & Key may finally see the comic adapted to live-action after several false starts. THR reports that Netflix has given the series based on the critically-acclaimed Joe Hill comic a straight-to-series order. The move comes after Hulu passed on the series. The new adaptation will be recast, but Carlton Cuse will remain as executive producer alongside Hill.

The series was previously given a pilot by Fox in 2011 and, despite a great-looking and well-received pilot, decided not to move forward. There were attempts in the interim to bring the film to film, but it never coalesced. Frances O’Connor, Rob Corddry and Danny Glover starred in the Hulu pilot.

The comic book centers on the Locke family, who are reeling after the death of the patriarch at the hands of a serial killer. Returning to their family home in Maine, the family — mother Nina, older brother Tyler, sister Kinsey and younger brother Bode — attempt to settle in. But the children discover that the house has magical keys that grant supernatural abilities when used to open doors in the house. They soon find that one of their father’s childhood friends Dodge has their own designs on the keys, and by extension the Locke children as well.
