Reese Witherspoon In Talks to Reprise Role in Legally Blonde 3

Reese Witherspoon is set to return to court, reprising her role as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 3. Deadline reports that Witherspoon is in final talks for the role, with Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah returning to to write the script for the film.

Plot details are not yet known for the film, though it is said to be in the spirit with the first. The intent is said to be to make the threequel “more about female empowerment, a message that hits at a fortuitous time in the culture.”

Legally Blonde released in 2001 and starred Witherspoon as Elle, a sorority queen who follows her boyfriend to law school after she dumps him and finds her calling as a lawyer. The film was a huge hit with $141 million on an $18 million budget. The sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde released in 2003 and brought in $124 million worldwide off of a $45 million budget.
