The Originals star Riley Voelkel is joining The CW’s Roswell reboot in a recurring role. EW reports that Voelkel, who plays Freya Mikaelson in the about-to-end Vampire Diaries spinoff, has signed on to play the role of Cameron in the reboot of the early 2000s sci-fi series.

The new series, officially titled Roswell, New Mexico — follows Liz Ortecho (Jeanine Mason), a jaded biomedical researcher and the daughter of undocumented immigrants who returns home to Roswell to find her teenage crush, Max is an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect, but when a violent attack points to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him.

Voelkel’s role of Cameron is described as Max’s quick-witted partner at the Sheriff’s Department, who has “the rare ability to break through Max’s stony cowboy facade.” Scrappy, sexy and cool, Cameron is difficult to rattle and prides herself on her realistic outlook.

Roswell, New Mexico will debut at midseason on The CW.
