Super Size Me Director Morgan Spurlock Passes Away

Morgan Spurlock, the documentarian who earned an Oscar nomination for Super Size Me, has passed away. Deadline reports that Spurlock passed away in New York after a private fight against cancer. He was 53 years old.
Spurlock produced a number of documentaries in his 23 year career, but Super Size Me is his most well-known and acclaimed work. Released in 2004, the doc saw Spurlock take aim at the fast food industry as he documented his eating McDonalds every day for 30 days. The film was nominated for Best Documentary at the 77th Academy Awards and led to a follow-up, Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!, in 2017.
Spurlock became one of the leading names in the field of documentary filmmaking, directing such films as Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden?, POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, and the concert documentary One Direction: This Is Us. He also executive produced a number of documentaries, both in film and TV, such as The Other F Word, Web Junkie and 30 Days, the latter of which he created as well.
Spurlock’s career was derailed in 2017 when he wrong a blog post admitting to past instances of sexual misconduct in the wake of the #MeToo movement. He acknowledged to settling a sexual harassment allegation and being accused of sexual assault while in college. He stepped down from his production company Warrior Poets, which he founded in 2004.
