Kingsman star Taron Egerton is denying recent rumors that he is being sought to play Wolverine in an upcoming MCU-set X-Men film. There’s been a strong movement online based on the speculation to have Egerton play the hairy, beclawed Canadian mutant, but Egerton told Variety that

“Yeah, I know,” the actor said when asked about the rumor. “I love Marvel and I love the movies, and I’d love the excuse to get in shape, and I’d love to be a part of it. Whether that one’s [Wolverine] realistic or not, I don’t know, but I’d love to be a part of one.”

Edgerton previously told Heart Breakfast about the rumors, “That one I think is just a rumor. As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough … I mean if the people at Marvel think I am, then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere.”

Wolverine, of course, was a central character in the Fox X-Men films and is arguably the most popular of Marvel’s mutants, making him a likely part of the eventual X-Men arrival into the MCU. Hugh Jackman played the role in eight total films before retiring with Logan.
