The Flash To End With Shortened Upcoming Ninth Season

The upcoming season of The Flash will run shorter than usual and mark the show’s end on The CW. The CW announced on Monday (per THR) that the long-running series will come to an end after its ninth season, which will run 13 episodes.
Production on the show’s last season begins next month. Executive producer & showrunner Eric Wallace confirmed the news in a statement which read:
“Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor and spectacle. And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race. So many amazing people have given their talents, time and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week. So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers and crew over the years who helped make The Flash such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.”
After Arrow’s end in January of 2020, The Flash became the longest-running show in the “Arrowverse” of CW-airing DC shows. The series was one of the network’s highest-rated shows for most of its run and spearheaded the expansion of the universe into other series including Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and Batwoman.
Following The Flash’s ending, the remaining DC shows on the network are Superman & Lois in its third season next fall and freshmah show Gotham Knights, which launches in early 2023.
