Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher faces another production delay, this time due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests. Deadline that production on the hit show’s second season was halted in the UK this week after multiple cases of positive COVID-19 tests.

The four cases reportedly came from Saturday (Nov. 7). When news broke, Netflix’s plan was to carry out a round of isolated testing on everyone working on the show. Those who tested positive are now being isolated and said to not have come from the lead cast members.

The hope is that the show will resume production at Arborfield Studios, located west of London, when Netflix is confident that the set is fully safe again.

Previously, Season 2 actor Kristofer Hivju (also Tormund of Game of Thrones fame) tested positive for COVID-19 back in March. Production for Season 2 was put on pause until mid-August, when it was finally able to resume following a lockdown in the UK due to the pandemic.

The first season of The Witcher was watched by 76 million households. The show stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, who comes from a group of trained monster hunts called Witchers who seeks to find his place in a dark world where people are sometimes more cruel than beasts. The show is based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski. The synopsis for season two reads as follows:

“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”

Netflix recently announced that a six-episode prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is also in the works.
