FloSports Shuts Down FloSlam Streaming Service
– FloSports has put an end to their FloSlam streaming service. The wrestling service was closed down on Wednesday after just over a year in business, PWInsider reports. The staff on the streaming service have been laid off as well.
FloSports launched the FloSlam service in October of 2016 and signed WWEN Live to a seven figure deal, while getting an announced $21.2 million in funding from companies that included WWE. However, attempts to sign companies like Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling failed, as was one with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and lucha groups. This led to complaints regarding the $20 a month price ($150 a year) for what added up to mostly WWN Live’s five events a month and one-time specials from other promotions.
The writing was on the wall for FloSlam after FloSports sued WWN Live in September, claiming that the company misrepresented their previous PPV and VOD buys for past events in order to get a better price from FloSports. WWN Live has denied the claims.
After the lawsuit was filed, FloSports put all WWN Live content live on the service for free, which caused an immediate backlash. It was viewed as a way to hurt the content’s value on other services. FloSports then removed WWN Live content, after which IPW: UK left the service. Left without new shows as content, FloSlam began a news, columns and podcast column, PWInsider notes that the staff that was hired to populate Floslam with content were those laid off today. That talent that was laid off was not involved in any of the past deals.
