Adam Copeland and Christian Cage’s careers took off when they were parried with Gangrel, who the former Edge says was “huge” for them. As Edge and Christian, the two stars were paired with Gangrel as The Brood in 1998. The supernatural heel alliance only lasted a year, but it provided the opening for Edge and Christian to take off to new heights.

Copeland reflected on being paired with Gangrel in a newly-released Q&A with Inside the Ropes. He praised Gangrel (aka David Heath) and talked about how Gangrel’s veteran status allowed him to be a buffer for the young, outspoken duo with the other stars in the locker room. You can see the highlights below:

On Gangrel:

“Well, he is cool. And not only from a character perspective, but just as a person. You know, Dave is one of the kindest guys I’ve ever met within the industry. One of the kindest guys who who could really hurt you badly.

On Gangrel Being a Buffer For Them With Other Talent:

“Gangrel was huge for us, because he was a veteran. And he was a respected veteran within the locker room. He’d been everywhere. Looking back and in talking to to Dave, that was a way for Jay and I to get accepted in the locker room. Because you have Christian and I wrestling the DOA. Yeah, right? Like one person remembers them. 6’8” bikers, bald, bearded. They don’t want to bump around for Edge and Christian, these two long-haired blonde kids from Canada. ‘Yeah, they can work, but we’ll just toss them around because they can bump.’

“And we’re working teams like that, like APA, and all of these things. But what Dave was, was a great buffer to say, ‘Hey, they’re okay. They’re really hard workers. they really want this.’ But one thing Jay and I were never afraid to do was say our opinion. And our opinion was always to try and make the best match we possibly could. And if we didn’t agree with APA, we told them. And that didn’t always go over well. So Dave was kind of the the veteran leadership to let everyone know that, ‘They they might be a little mouthy, but it’s for the right reasons.’
